3 arrested for sandalwood theft

Police have arrested three people in connection with a sandalwood theft case that took place on July 18 2017 and recovered valuables worth Rs 61 lakh including 100 kg of sandalwood oil.
The material was stolen from the forest department’s nursery at Chikhali in Karveer taluka, in the early hours of July 18, by a gang of 8 to 10 people.
Superintendent of police Sanjay Mohite said, “Following the theft case, reported on July 18, the local crime branch and the Karveer police were asked to investigate the case in details and nab the culprits.”

The police received information that the stolen sandalwood was smuggled to Mumbai after taking it to Pandharpur from Kolhapur. The culprits also transported the material to Karnataka, to create confusion amongst the investigating agency. After receiving information from their sources, the police caught Khurd, Beg and later on nabbed Bansode. Khurd and Bansode were involved in looting the material while Beg helped in the transportation. Police are yet to find the whereabouts of the other culprits involved in the crime.
